Pond Side

This round of chemo is over and rather than recovering in The James, we have been released to recover in Dayton. Gloria made it through the consolidation treatment with flying colors, but now we are anxiously waiting while her counts bottom-out. As her white-blood cells, hemoglobin, and platelets decline, we will be going to the outpatient clinic here in Dayton to get blood drawn to keep an eye on things and to get blood transfusions and platelets when needed. The biggest concern now is that Mom's immune system will be compromised and this time, Team Gloria are the nursing staff. Much to Sid's chagrin, not one of the cast of Gray's Anatomy has come home with us! But, Team Gloria are safely ensconced at Sid's house enjoying the views of the trees and the pond from the many windows.

Again, we are in lock-down mode, so as much as we would love to see everyone, it is imperative that we keep Gloria safe from infection. We are happy to receive your love and support via blog, email, mail and phone, so keep it coming!  One terrific surprise we had on our arrival home was a brand new set of plants and stepping stones in the garden, all provided by our wonderful neighbors, Tina and Kay, and assisted by our new friends, Elise and Macy, who just moved into the neighborhood. We can't express our gratitude enough!

Lots of love,

Rebecca, Karen, Sidney, and Gloria

  3. GG,
What wonderful news that you're in such a beautiful place. How great! Wish I could hug you in person, but that will just have to wait ... Soon, would you want to sleep in another "shabby, rustic cabin on the Metolius"? We have lots more you and Sid might enjoy. (These all have functioning bathrooms and you wouldn't have to brush your teeth in the kitchen sink!)
OK,I finally finished "The Book" ... Fifty Shades .... Gotta go back to our book club's selection, "Uncle Tom's Cabin" for this month; way,way more dramatic and interesting.
Again, thinking of you every day and sending thanks to all the wonderful folks who are taking such good care of you.
STAY ON THE SOFA FOR LONG PERIODS OF TIME ... MAYBE SOMEDAY SOON WITH A GLASS OF OREGON PINOT NOIR AND DARK CHOCOLATE!
    Hug you, Darlin'

  4. So glad to hear that you are esconced at Sid's. That's got to feel better than being at "The James" (despite how classy that might sound). Take good care of yourself, and let others wait on you...

Team Gloria: Take care of yourselves, too. We all appreciate the wonderful care you are giving our friend Gloria.

All my love and healing thoughts and wishes.

  16. Happy Monday! All kinds of big things happening -- Isaac is brewing in the Gulf; Sinclair begins semesters; Katie started kindergarten; and you are gaining back your health and strength! Sure hope this finds you in good spirits and anticipating a good week. Can't help but think about all the work you invested into the conversion from quarters to semesters with regard to the most important piece in the puzzle -- the curriculum. All of your good work begins to manifest itself today in the classrooms. Isn't it nice to be observing from afar? Thinking of you and wishing you a good day and a good week.

    Your friend,
    Tom

  17. Hey, Gloria! Well, it's started: semesters at SCC!!!! So much going on, including some madness, but I have to say it doesn't seem significantly different than any other term which is a good thing and a HUGE statement about the benefits of all the pre-work. Be proud...yes, you should be...and be very pleased and satisfied that all your work has made a difference to students and faculty. THANK YOU! Still thinking of you constantly and wishing you peace and love and health. I love you, my friend!
